Lunar Eclipse at Dawn

Total lunar eclipse above Chief Mountain
in Glacier Nat. Park.

Before dawn this morning the full moon shaded into a total lunar eclipse, as we Earthlings passed in between the sun and moon. Before sunrise broke the eastern horizon, the eclipsed moon faded from view in the skies above Chief Mountain (right) and Sherburne Peak and Yellow Mountain (left), on the east side of Glacier National Park. It was the last total lunar eclipse until 2014. (The story behind this image is here.)
