Hungry Horse Reservoir

Larch trees around Hungry Horse Reservior (c) John Ashley
Golden larch trees surrounding Hungry Horse Reservoir on a foggy morning earlier this week.
It snowed today in Hungry Horse. Not the regular high elevation white stuff. No, this storm took place down below treeline, blowing in on high winds throughout the afternoon - a swirling, yellow storm of wind-blown larch needles. After the clouds clear out and the 45 mph wind gusts settle down, it'll be interesting to see just how much gold remains on the autumn mountains sides around western Montana.
